cut die-off?

I got a nice deep water coral piece yesterday, and it has a few spots ofdie off on the branches.It has been there for a while, and has a littlealgea growth init. I am trying to decide ifcutting the dead pieces off would help the branches togrow faster, orif just scrubbing the algea off really well would. any ideas?

Cutting it probably is not a bad idea, but I usually just let it grow back over the algae covered area. Sometimes cutting will results in it growing off in new directions, which could be favorable.
