Cut up Toadstool Leather ?

Ok, my toadstool Leather has finally expanded and is looking real good.
The base where it is attached is rather hard and a little crusty from a thick layer of algae that was growing on it
I had a problem with water quality a while back but thanks to a new RO unit it is under control.
Does anyone know if the base will heal or should I propagate the remaining coral head?
I hate to cut it up as it is a beautiful piece
(7" across the head) and I would like to admire it for a while.
Thanks
Chris

I just posted a similar question under the heading help save a mushroom leather. (only mine was ripped by a lfs guy). I don't know the answer to your question but I am interested to find out too. Good luck!

Although I have never cut mine, from what I have read and the people I have talked to you can cut it anywhere, anyway, and any piece will grow a new stool.

I've heard the same as jimi but haven't had exp with toadstools. I have cut up my branching sinularia and it has been fine. I just cut off one of the digets and rubber band it to a piece of rock. The mother colony closes for about 10 min. but opens back up quickly.
