I figured if I'm going to put one in a reef better be small. so far so good for the time being. the only thing he nipped at was my open brain which went into the sump til I trade it for something he doesn't have a taste for. I love puffers, you go to the glass they go to the glass to watch you watch them. I was kind of waiting on a hawaiian blue but this guy was just too cute.

he munches these tube worms all day and fortunately or unfortunately there is no shortage of them on my liverock

Very nice tank and setup. The puffer will eat the crabs, snails, shrimps, and should not really bother corals.

thanks. from what I understand with most toby puffers its really hit or miss wether they'll eat the inverts as well as the corals but you stand a better chance of success if you get them really small and with the inverts in the tank 1rst. we will see what happens. I do understand they are apart of their natural diet and why they have the beak like teeth but whats an semi aggressive reef with no pretators
At this size and point it and the hermits pick at the algae sheet side by side.

They are really neat fish, aren't they?
I have had one for my FOWLR system for a few months now and he's one of my favorites. He sleeps every night by settling down on one of my loc-line inflows.

good little guy. i had one before my tank busted. now my bro and i are on different tracks. he has a 125 and i have a 40. he might pick at some of your crabs a bit but if he dosen't, good for you. but he will definitly pick at any new crabs. cool though. you just made me change my mind about what fish to get for the 40. thanks

Nice tank. Has the puffer ever taken a bite from your corals? I wanted one but I was told he would eat my corals.

he took a liking to open brain and nipped at it so I took if out. otherwise he hasn't messed with the other stuff. really didn't cause much damage due to the tiny size of his mouth ( a few very small shallow circles) but I put the brain in the sump to patch up and trade for somethig it doesn't bother. If he gets out of hand either he or the corals can still go in the 30gallon.

Yeah, I had to give mine to my daughter because he was putting holes in my clam. He did not bother my crabs, hermits or CC seastar.

sponge bob. there used to be some yellow polyps on that rock and barely any visable sponge but after an "incident" the yellow polyps didn't make it but the sponge keeps getting bigger.
thanks for the compliments everyone. still have a long way to go: more rock, more lights, more coral and more fish. Once the shrimp is out of there I'm going to I'm going to push the aggressor fish further: hawkfish, blue throat or hawiian blck trigger, lunare or other Thalassoma wrasse, GSM clown, snowflake eel have not been ruled out (not all but a couple from the list). I spent the last two years with sissy fish and need to try something a little more exciting.
