Ok, can anyone tell me if there is a special trick or tool needed to cut acrylic? I need to make a straight cut in a piece of 1/4".

Sorry to but in on your thread, but does anyone know a place online that sells cut-to-size acrylic. I tried this one place but they were charging $65 to get three panel cut.

they were charging $65 for just the cuts or for the cuts and the material??

It was for the cuts and the material. The panels were 11.5 x 9, 11.5 x 10, and 11.5 x 6. The material was 3/16" acrylic.

will be saw cut edges....no It doesn't chip. And yes 40 for the material and the cuts for the three piece sizes you listed. $5 more for polishing the edges which makes them smooth and clear.
