Cutting light difuser

Light difusers are used in alot of places, under the sand for rockwork support, on top of the tank to keep fish from jumping out, frag racks and who know for what else.
But,
What tools do you use to get clean cuts ??
How much space do you leave on the sides and back ??
( between the defuser and the glass)
Should it touch the silcone ?? ever
Looking to set up my tank again for the long haul, the right way.

Needle-nose pliers work great, just twist and break one link at a time.Sand the edges if jagged if you really want to be clean.
JMO- No I would not let it touch the silicone.

Funny you bring this up, because I just got some lighting diffusor today and was experimenting with different tools to cut it. A hacksaw worked best for me because it got me nice clean cuts without breaking the panels. I used a pair of wire cutters but they kept breaking off strips of it. But that's just my 2 cents.

I have had to use the Egg crate stuff at work and the guys in the Window dept. will use an old large screwdriver and break the tabs where needed. I used the same method at home and used a small adjustable wrench. I just mesured for the opening and went outside, took the wrench and busted the cross beams as needed.
