Hi,
Slice and Dice! You can cut them from the base if you like. Each cell will propogate a new shroom. So you could even plop them into a blender! No joke, I have seen it done. There is no right or wrong way to frag these guys. I use a bridal veil to cover them till they attach.
Happy Fragging!

Hi again,
Never tried it, but being they don't have a stony base I am not sure if that would work, but you could give it a try. Maybe others have tried it and they might give some input.

Yes,
You can use super glue gel. Last time I did it, my starfish ripped them right off the rock I glued them to.

Yes glue... the gel super glue is excellent to attatch frags..better than the stuff you get at pet store. As for mushrooms I usually stick them down in a small crack somewhere. When you move them they shrink up and you can push them in a small hole or crack. In a day or two they are attatched and expand out of hole. I usually just use a razor blade knife to cut them off at base to frag.. this way you can mix and match different kinds close together. good luck

so when doing this and using the glue, do you gotta dry off the rock and the base of the shroom, or can it be done wet? also what else can you do this with? also, would it be better to put the newly frags like in the sump, so they can attach without fear of something tearing them off? lastly, should one dose iodine as well, to help the healing process, or dont worry about it shrooms are resiliant? sorry for all the questions

I was told to cut them in fours and either glue it or put them in a small crack in the rocks as mentioned above. Keep them in a place with the least amount of water movement so they'll attach easier. A hair net over the rock would help too. The guy also told me to use iodine as it will help the healing process. I've never done it myself, but this guy propogate soft corals for the last 20 years.

Here is some info from Garf.org, what one of their visitors wrote:
After loosing many cuttings to slime, protozoan infection, I decided to cut the mushroom into four pieces like a pizza pie. After cutting them and let them heal first, until they are fully healed, in my opinion, when the disk is fully form, this will lead to stronger cuttings.
Make the cut below the disk as close as possible to the base, these cuttings are much stronger than cuttings done of just the disk of the mushroom, even if these cuttings are not attacked by protozoans. After the cuttings have been removed, dip then in a small cup of the aquarium water with a few drops of iodine for about three minutes.
For more info, you can visit http://www.garf.org/algae2/mushroom.html and read more about it for your self. There are also other articles there about propogation.

Do the frags need the same lighting as fully grown shrooms do? Less or More?
Also how long before they are grown to full shrooms again ?
