Cutting Xenia?

Ok I have a large group of xenia in my tank. They have spread about as far as I want them to. The question I have is can I cut off some of the branches without killing the hole trunk? I dont mean the arms with the poms on them, I mean there are numerous trunks that go off in all different directions, but come to a common point on the rock. If I cut a few of these trunks will the rest survive? Also if this would work do I just cut it with a knife or scissor (like I do my kenya tree?)

If you cut it..every place where a bit of "trunk" remains will become a stalk and grow all the more. Use your fingers go down to the base of the stalk and gently tug, the critter will release and you can remove it altogether...frag it and give it away, sell it or toss it.
