Do an Internet search on cyanide poisoning, or cyanide fishing. There are a lot of articles. The biggest effect seems to be to the reef itself, as the cyanide kills everything around it.
Couldn't find specific symptoms, except that fish are stunned by it. Some residual cyanide can cause death even months later.
