ive got this red stuff all over my glass and the green on my rocks. my lfs said cut back on my lighting so i have and the green is about the same but the red is still on my glass what do i need to do to get rid of this stuff...i run my 10000ks for 7-10 hrs a day and i still dont have my actincs yet(came busted). i feed them once a day(half a cube). my clean up crew handful of turbo snails,and somewhere between 13-15 red,blue hermits. temp is 79-80 degs,
Generally if you are getting cyano, you don't have enough flow or you have dead spots. Since you said its on the glass, I would assume that you don't have enough water movement in your tank. You need to add some additional powerheads. If you've got plenty of flow, try directing the flow along the glass that has the growth, that will generally reduce it. Additionally if you are still running your 10K lights 7 to 10 hours per day, I would cut back even more (10 hours is generally the standard light cycle for 10K, with the actinics running an hour before and an hour after ~ that way you have a full 12 hour light cycle). The light cycle when first started should only be about 4 hours long, then gradually extended by 15 or 30 minutes per day till you reach the desired length of your light cycle (usually 12 hours).
