Cyano Cleanup crew help!

I have been battling cyano for about 3 months now. It has turned from a red to greenish slim, that is covering the sand. Been filtering the sand out of my tank, and reducing feeding and light. I think I should upgrade my cleanup crew, any suggestions?? 45G tank.
Thanks for the help!

More info needed. What are the actual numbers of your water parimaters?
amm.
trites
trates
sg/salinity
PO4
temp
What filtration are you useing?
What type of water are you using? RO/DI or tape?
How many GPH(gallons per hour turn over)
How much lr/ls?
How old is tank and live stock list. What are you feeding?
This will help see where there could be a problem. With cyno nothing eats it you need to find the cause.
Just hang in and someone will beable to help you.

the nitrates and po4 is probably the cause...vaccuum as much as you can do some water chages with RO/DI water

OK, tomorrow I will go to the lfs to get some of there saltwater, b/c I don't have a RO/DI water system. Maybe see how much the RO/DI systems are. Thanks for the help. "I hate cyano"

i am fighting it too...i bought my ro/di for $175 shipped...75 gpd...worth the investment...while you are there get some of the red slime control...while it is not a permenant fix it will help get rid of what is growing now and give you time to find out what is causing it

I dont know about using the red slime control. Just about 6 months ago a friend of mine who had his 300 gallon reef tank crash from using this additive. His tank had sps and softies and fish. Something went bad and now he has extimated that he has lost $10,000 worth of coral and live stock. He was also hospitalized because of the toxins in the tank when he tried to rescue some of the animals that he had. Just be careful with what you use you never know when something is going to cause a problem. I would try to also point a power head at the cyano just to see if a little more O2 could help get rid of it. I have heard that cyano thrives in parts of our tanks that are oxygen deficient. Correct me if I am wrong. Dustin

Your cyano is more than likely from the nitrates and insufficient water flow in your tank. You should have roughly 20x an hour turnover in a reef setup.
I highly recommend AGAINST youing the Red Slime remover. First of all, the active ingredient is Erythromycin, an antimicrobial (antibiotic). This kills off as much good bacteria as bad.
Secondly, using Red Slime remover is like using air fresheners in a musty basement. As soon as the Red Slime remover runs out, the problem comes right back.
