So I started cycling my tank on 3/7 by adding 50LBS LR and 2 cocktail shrimp to just sand and 100LBS Dead ROCK
3/9 3/11 3/13
SG 1.024 1.024 1.025
pH 8.2 8.2 8.2
KH 9.6 9.5 9.6
ALK 3.43 3.27 3.43
NO3 35 65 100
NO2 2.0 2.5 3.0
NH4 1.5 1.5 0.15

Granted it has only been a week but why would trates and trites spike without seeing a spike in ammonia? It never went high out of sight I can still see some of the shrimp in the bottom and it looks like a little fuzz ball. Obviously I'm goign to wait and keep testing but has this happened to anyone before?

Did you see any ammonia on your test? Sometimes the spike is not as high as others, but the fact that you have nitrates and Nitrites means there is ammonia in your tank...can't really have one without the other. The Trites and Trates are a sign of ammonia being processed.

yea thats what I thought. On the 9th and 1th i def saw ammonia with the test. I use the Salifert test kits so its obviously between cloudy yellow and just cloudy. I'm interested to see if trites and trates keep rising if thats the case I might start looking into getting a second opinion....
Cain I don't have a canister filter. Just a skimmer and the LR obviously.

no no i didn't mean it like you KNOW my setup. I just had the LR listed in the first thread so I was just re-itterating. No harm meant. Sorry Cain
