cycle tank with shrimp

I am working on cycling my 10 gallon tank with shrimp. I added one the amonia spiked I took the shrimp out this took about 2 weeks everything has gone back to normal, does this mean the tank is cycled and ready?

You know what I didn't even test them, I am feeling abit foolish. I was assuming that if the amonia did everything else would follow suit.

Chop up the shrimp and let it rot in there. That should complete the cycle.
