Cycle

I was remiss in my testing duties and now I am confused....my 55 Gal FOWLR(for now) tank is 3 weeks old and my ammonia, trites, and trates are all ZERO!!! I do have algae so I am assuming that I have cycled, but isn't 3 weeks kind of early or am I just lucky/good :) ?
Help?

It sounds to me like your tank has cycled! The live rock speeds up the process. I have a 180 that was set up on August 15th with live rock and I have never had any ammonia spike. The rock had been in the LFS's tanks for weeks so any spikes or die off had already happened. If your rock was in their tank for a couple of weeks, you should be fine. Add a fish and test in 4 days for ammonia, if you don't have any, then you have cycled. If you do have a small amount then test again in 3-4 days for ammonia and nitrite. If your readings are 0 then it is safe to add another fish. I hope this helps and good luck. :)

Actually, I started off sort of backwards...I started as a FO tank, so I had fish in from the beginning, added some live rock last week and a little more on Saturday...now up to 10 or so pounds...all LR looked good at the store with pink/red algea and some "things" growing on it...
So...am I ready??

If you have had fish in from the beginning and you tested zero on all three test, then you are cycled! I would go slow adding new fish and test at least once a week while you are stocking the aquarium.

I'm in a similar situation, my ammonia, nitrites have not peaked after 3 weeks, im guessing my cycle is done because i have live sand.
