cycling and skimmer Question

just a quick question re cycling my tank. should i have the hangon skimmer up and runnning while the tank is cycling or not.

My skimmer has been running during my cycle and its producing a lot of nasty.

Yes, it can't hurt and will pull out any organics that you may get from die-off.
