cycling my water

when you cycle water for a new tank, can you cycle the water with a hermit crab instead of a fish.

don't cycle with anything living. you can start your cycle with a raw coctail shrimp or uncured liver rock.

The idea of cycling with a fish is the fish produces amonia for the bio filter to start...hermits dont seem to be big contributors to amonia...unless you had a ton of them...
Even with fish...you need more then one to get the cycle going effectively.
