I have a 55 gallon set up and an establised 30 gallon too (that has the fish in it ) I was thinking of maybe taking the established water from the 30 and moving it to the 55 gallon and putting the fish in would this work? i would of course move their live rock and substrate

You should probably be able to get away with it. It will be similar to you doing a water change except you will just be putting water in and not taking it out.

i did it a few times, as i moved up to bigger tanks. you'll most likely get a few algae blooms early on, i guess from the new surfaces, but otherwise you'll be fine.
