Hello Everyone , I Just Started My Tank And I've Been Reading About Putting Raw Shrimp In My Tank To Speed Up The Cycling Process. Can Someone Explain How This Process Work?? Should I Go Ahead And Put Them In?? If So, How Many Should I Put In?? Any Advice And Suggestion Will Help Me Out, Thankyou.

A raw shrimp is there to start your nitrogen cycle process. One is just fine. As the shrimp decays it creates ammonia, converting to nitrites, and then to nitrates. Leave the raw shrimp in there until you see a ammonia spike in your testing. If you are creating a reef I suggest you start running your skimmer now. If not, leave it off until after the tank cycles. Cycles can take anywhere from two weeks to two months. Keep an eye on your water and test once a week. All just suggestions. Good luck!

Once you get a reading of ammonia in your tank you'll want to take that shrimp out, and it will smell really bad!!
Test your aquarium water every other day and write down your readings. Ammonia will be the first thing you get a reading for. A few weeks or so later you should see the nitrite levels rising and the ammonia levels dropping. Finally, after a few more weeks you should see the nitrate levels rising and the nitrite levels dropping.
Buy a test kit that allows you to test for all these levels.

If you have live rock in the tank it will begin to cycle on its own. You can add a raw table shrimp. But there is no reason that you have to.Also dont run the skimmer in your tank untill your tank is done cycling.
