forget the bottle, it is a sensless waste of money, and doesn't speed it up that much,IMO
as for the shrimp, let it in til it disappears, the decay will start your cycle
if you are using lr and/or ls, this will also help to start your cycle

in a 55 (i assume that is what your working on) i would through in 2 jumbo uncooked shrimp wait about a week and start doing periodic tests for ammonia once the ammonia levels start to drop then begin testing nitrites and trates...once you levels reach zero then your cycle is over...

Why not try the BIOZYME? Although it does not work for some, it works for many. I prefer the biozyme because I cannot stand the smell of the shrimp decaying in the aquarium. I used lr and ls, and I just recently put the biozyme in. So that's my opinion, I hope that gives you another option to do the cycle. If you want to read more about this, go to google.com and do a search on Nitrogen Cycle. I learned a lot from there. I hope that helps.

the smell is part of the cycle...it come from the ammonia spike which is necessary for a good cycle and will create a more stable environment later for your tank...
i used 3 frozen jumbo shrimp from my grociery store...
but for a 55 2 should be fine...

ill just throw in a couple regular size ones we catch our own around here int he summer and freeze it so ill just thaw out a little chunk and throw it in there

frozen shrimp will be fine (thawed)
and to answer stupid_naso, nothing wrong IMO wtih biozyme, just money spent on something that will happen naturally, i'd rather put the money towards a couple of more lbs of lr or fish, that's all, but if that is what you want, use it byall menas

If you plan on putting Live sand as your substrate, you could purchase one bag of the "baterial live" sand from ***** ($35.00) and your tank will cycle and you won't have to remove anything. Just add your "Live Sand" and rock right on top after the nitrogen cycle is over.
