Cycling with shrimp ?

This question is for everyone who has used a cocktail shrimp to cycle with.How long did you leave the shrimp in the tank?I just put the shrimp in my 150g tank yesterday and i checked my ammonia this afternoon and i already have .50 ammonia.Should i go ahead and remove the shrimp from my tank now or leave it longer?This is the first time i cycled a tank this way so i need to know what to do here.Thanks for any help!

i left mine in there until it started to fall apart which was baout 3 days

once you notice a significant spike i would take it out.. how many did you put in there

I used 2 big shrimp,but how much are you calling a significant spike?I am at .50 as of this afternoon.

ok,where do you think my ammonia needs to be before i remove the shrimp?

i was always under the impression that you wanted the to cut the shrimp up into small pieces and wait for it to get totally consumed by the bacteria and then once the shrimp was no longer visible you were supposed to wait for the tank parameters to stabalize
