I have this red slime algae in my tank which I assume is cynobacteria. Will this crud go away on its own or do I need to do something to get rid of it. Water parameters are fine. Fish are healthy and show no signs of stress. Thanks:confused: :)

I also believe I have some cyno in mine but it looks a little different. Mine is in clumps and looks fuzzy But not to the point of looking like hair algea. Will this crud go away on its own or do I need to do something to get rid of it. Water parameters are fine. Fish are healthy and show no signs of stress. I have heard there is a snail or crab or SOMETHING that will eat this stuff.
Plz respond ASAP so it does not get out of hand
Thx for all your help

I had a cyano problem and it got so bad that I resorted to chemicals to assist me in getting rid of it (I was desperate). I used "Chemi-Clean" you can buy it online for alot cheaper than you can at the LFS.
This worked well for me, but I recommend that you increase your water flow and check your phosphate's so that it doesn't return.

I can't imagine I have any phosphates because I use RO/DI water. I also have an aqua clear 802 powerhead which creates very good water flow. Will it go away on its own sooner or later? I really don't want to use chemicals to get rid of it.

i have a skimmer outlet, sump return and two rio 1400 powerheads. I still have low flow areas because of my 60lbs of live rock. You may want to try a phosphate remover. I have even had a 3rd power head at one time and there was still some spots when my phos or my trates are up.

do a search on cyanobacteria and look for a post called "How to rid your tank of "Red-Slime! There is some good information on it there. It helped me to see what was causing it and how to get rid of it.
