daily water changes during hypo

well my 2 clowns are in a 20 g uncycled tank for 3 days now for hyposalinity....the ammonia keeps comin up and i do a 3 gallon water change a day......do i have to keep doing this until im done with hypo...daily water changes for 1.5 months???? one of the clown appears to be breathing rapidly tooo? Is this from the ammonia? Salinity is at 1.009

You will need to continue to do water changes until the ammonia and nitrite are at 0 and STAY there. Depending on the filtration in your hypo tank, it should cycle but it could take a while. Also you only want to do hypo for 3-4 weeks after the ick is not visable. As far as the breathing heavy or rapidly, it could be something to do with the high ammonia. Also could be oxygen in the water. What type of filters do you have on the hypo tank?
