Can anyone tell me how to catch a damsel without taking apart the tank. I purchased a baby hippo tang and the damsel is going after him and biting his tail.:(

buy a miniatus grouper, dont know how to do it without taking apart the tank to hard and time and energu consuming, so buy a fish that will eat it.

I had a grouper, this is the only damsel he did not eat. The grouper got too big and I gave him back to the LFS, I was told not to keep a grouper in a reef tank.

I think the best way to catch any fish is by doing it at night when they're sleeping. They are generally slower and less aware of their environment. So right before you turn off your lights, make sure you know where your damsel goes. If it just swims around then great. You should be able to do it. Just make sure that it's asleep.

By one of those traps with the tube and sliding door. Put some brine shrimp in it and I gaurentee with in seconds you will have caught it. I caught 4 green chromis in less than 5 minutes this way.

fish dont sleep- is that just joking b/c yes they do- the best trick i use is buttind in some food wait till wh comes to the top and use a large net - if you dont do it the first time you have to wait till next feeding

its really hard.
i had 2 in my tank, first one i nailed when it was at the surface, (LUCK!!!)
and the next one i had to tear apart the tank.
took a coral beauty out by draining all the water into buckets, picked him up off the sand (he was flapping around) and quickly put the water back, corals were fine. scary though!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA,
ok Im a firm believer you need to trap the lil guy! Place a large net in a clearing in the tank and chase the lil guy around until he swims into the net.
As for fish dont sleep comment...OH Please just because fish dont have eyelids, dont mean they dont sleep. I have seen a ton of fish sitting in the water collum sleeping. if you time your dives right you can find sleeping fish! I also have watched the Fish at the Aquarium snoooooozing for hours at a time.
Nite all!

Someone once posted an idea using a 2 liter bottle to catch them - sort of like the tube trap. If you're out there, can you post that again? Anyone want to trade a nice, reef safe fish for 4 da** damsels? They are picking at my corals - I'VE HAD IT! My goal is to remove them from my tank before semester break is over.

I had to take my tank apart but I will try this next time.
Put a plastic bottke in the water with a quarter size hole in it.
put food, perhaps brine shrimp in, lower the bottle and let the fish swim in. also attach a string to the bottle. When the fish swims in lift the bottle out.
Good luck
