Yeah they do sort of smell. Just make sure you don't put any potpouri near the tank.:D . Try not to use any sprays or air freshiners near it either. If your curing rock in your tank you'll smell that as well. Use a solid air freshiner if you need to near your house registers, scented pinecones whatever, not sprays, you don't really want any of that near your tank. You could even use automotive hangin air freshners around the tank. A little paitence and you will be rewarded with a beautiful tank someday.

check the ammonia, if it has spiked you can take the shrimp out of there. the smell will go away in a day or two.

i hope you put your shrimp in a mesh bag... after the cycle you will actually have to clean that crap out of the sand/live rock, i have done this before, not a fun task
