guys i have had my tank for over 1 year with no problems. I just recently bought a sea fan. I was told the kind i have is difficult to keep alive and only an expert should purchase one. Well the local fish store attendant failed to mention this. I was doing research and found that i needed to supply the sea fan with iodine and calcium well everyday i put that stuff in and now my dansel is all white when he should be black and he is at bottom of tank graspin for air. I just cleaned some of the water out of the tank. Is there anything else can be done? Is it an overload of chems cause ing this? This fish has been alive and well in my tank for over 1 yr please give me your input

If I were to guess, I would say that it is your chemicals, since you have never had a problem before. I was told to not put iodine in my tank, unless you have a test kit. When you do water changes, there is iodine present in the salt. Also, if you are putting that and calcium in everyday, I would say that your levels are too high. Don't add any kind of additive or chemical without a test kit (good rule of thumb). Don't add anymore iodine until you test (or calcium). It is probably messing up your ph levels, too (too low) . I bet as soon as you get the iodine and calcium levels back down, he will do much better. Please, anyone correct me if I am wrong! Find out what is the ideal level for your sea fan and try to keep it there with a test kit. (Sorry I am being redundant!)
