Are damsels good to start the cycle?
And can I put them in now even though my nitrate is high because my LFS said damsels are mainly used for the cycle

What are your nitrate readings? How did your nitrates get high if the tank wasn't cycled? Are you asking if damsels are a good starting fish? Some people like damsels, but they are mean to other fish. They are very territorial and will harass other fish that you may plan to buy. They can be hard to catch as well, if you decide that you do not want them.

no. get a new lfs
ha the ultimate test is.. can i keep a tang or 2 in my 55?
lol
like mentioned i would suggest you get a raw shrimp and leave it in there to get some amm. going tostart your cycle.
if you use a damsel with is cruel becasue it burns their gills from the amm? you may not want to keep it and they are quick little suckers and hard to get out. they get large and very aggressive as well
good luck.. lets see some pics!

ha, my lfs told me i could. and to cycle with damsels. but seriously, cycle with live rock and a coctail shrimp. even if yur damsel lives, its life will be significantly shorter

I dont have a test kit right now
How do you know that the nitrates are high? If you did not cycle this tank yet then cycle it with live rock. You will need a liquid master test kit. They cost roughly $25.
