For all of those who always say that an oriental sweetlips cannot be kept for long and are hard to keep, my sweetlips of four years has suddenly died. I have to say, it is a devastating loss for me as i have taken great pride in keeping this fish for so long.

I am sorry to hear about your loss

I am one of those who say that they are difficult to keep.
But if they were not hard to keep, why would you have taken such great pride in keeping it for so long? They are hard, you did keep it alive, and you should be proud of that  The two experiences are not at odds.
People do keep some for sure but I would still say that the majority of sweetlips that come into the hobby do not live very long and I would discourage people from trying. In large part I discourage it, apart even from their poor survival, because they are sold misleadingly as small pretty fish like clowns that even if they do survive will grow much, much larger than most people can keep, and somewhat less attractive. So I also think they are a marketing scam
Anyway, there are ALWAYS some fish that will survive. "Hard to keep" animals, IMO, have mortality rates over, picking a number, say, 80% which means that 20% will survive. I hope you find another one of those exceptions should you try and keep one again, and that if you do have success with another that you share your husbandry to see if there is something you are doing that is different from others.
