De-Copperizing a Fish Tank

I have a 55 gallon tank which has come in contact with copper. I would love to be able to use LR and a few inverts in the tank (which will be a FO), but I first need to de-copperize(for lack of a better word) it. As many of you know, I am only 14 years old and do not wish to do any of the following:
Strip the tank of silicone sealent (it may leak)
No bleach, too risky.
Nothing that could potentially harm any living creature.
I heard that there was something you could insert into a filter to 'de-copperize' all freecopper. What is it called? Would it be sufficient?
Thanks,

you could always, buy a smaller tank and make it a invert/reef tank. Then use the 55 for a FO tank.

Several hot water washes should be sufficiant enough to clean the tank out. 2 years later mine are all still up and running well.

I used coppersafe when my tank as fresh water so when i switched over to saltwater i just scrubbed it real good and used Hot water and have not had a problem yet Knock on Wood.:D

Just make sure that you replace all the old rock and sand/gravel. That is where a lot of the copper is absorbed to be leached out into the tank at a later date to harm your inverts. Lesley
