Very safe lots of folks have RO/DI units in their homes to make their own water.

Yup, I have an RO/DI in my home. Costs me around 350$ for everything but I make my own drinking water with it and also make all my aquarium water for it. Hell in that retrospect it has already payed for its self! Think trying to fill 150G aquarium with bottled distilled water from the store @ 1$ a gal then all the top ups and water changes not to mention all that water that we drink. It is a good investment and yes it will keep your aquarium allot happier!
