Dead anemone?

I'm afraid my carpet anemone is dead (at least, dying)- how can you tell for sure? I've had it for about a month, and in that time it has "deflated" itself regularly, but has always puffed up again. Now, it hasn't puffed all day, but will still contract when I touch it. I have 2 clown fish - clarkii and percula, but neither of them have ever paid any attention to the anemone. Was this a sign from the start that the anemone was sick?

My carpet recently died on me, his tentacles were not very sticky to the touch over the last week of this life, and his mouth in the middle was always open, he only looked healthy for an hour or two a day, also it almost seemed like my tomato could sense that he was dying because he did not spend as much time with it. It will fall apart when it dies so if you think it is nearly dead than I would get it out of the tank and flush it.

This thread took 2 years and 4 months to get the first post. I'll remember this thread and post on it again in another 10 years.
