Dead feather duster?

I have a large feather duster that was always out, but after adding an emerald crab last night, today it has not really been out. I dont know if the crab attacked it or what, but about one inch of its crown sticks out, and I went to put my hand near it to see if it would retract, and it just stayed there. I touched it, and it was still... Im wondering if the crab cropped its crown, it shed its crown, or if it might have died?

sure the crab could be agitating it, but i wouldn't rule it dead just yet. Featherdusters are actually known to lose their crown of feathers from time to time, and grown new ones. Kinda of like a snake shedding its skin, although im not too sure why they do this it has happened to me several time. Its kinda freaky, but it happens. I would keep your eye on him for awhile, possibly watch him at night to see if he is opened or if in fact something might be picking at him. But dont throw the towl in just yet. I think he should be fine in a few days!
good luck

Leave the featherduster alone for a while and see if its condition improves. If not it may be dead <img src="graemlins//dead.gif" border="0" alt="[dead]" /> I had a feather duster that disapeared for about three days and then just started to feed again.
