i have a new 12g nano cube that has been running for over a month. it was set up at the fish store with their water and 15lbs of lr. they had an orange tail blue damsel, and a percula clown in it. i bought the tank with everything in it, including the water. it has been in our house for two weeks and both fish are dead. all of the test come out fine, and the coral that came with it are doing great. the damsel died slowly over a few days, but the clown was fine at about noon then was dead at 8:00 that evening. what could cause this

no there were no white spots. the tail and fins sort of looked chewed on. but other than that it looked fine.

i wanted to say new tank syndrome but if the coral is doing fine and you are not using new water so that's probably not the case.
i suspect that while transfering the stuff from the lfs to your tank, there was die off from the rocks and the cycling was restarted but you say the tests come out normal.
i don't know :notsure:

Is it possible that Temp goes up and down during the day or at night? That would do it...
Also how are you keeping up with evap? Salinity changes are more drastic in smaller tanks..

it might be the temp. it has gone up and down a few degrees because it is a new heater and its hard to adjust because of where the tank is located.
would that kill the clown that quick.

Combined with the added stress of a new environement...yes.
Also how did you acclimate it? That also plays an important role..

the fish were already acclimated since it was set up at the fish store for about a month. and the temp hadn't changed from the drive home.
