Dead Fish

I brought my water to LFS for testing. Everything came out very good except pH (pH = 7.9) and the guy from LFS recommended me to use Marine pH buffer to bring the pH up. Is it the main reason why all my fishes can only survive for 3 days. Do I really need to bring the pH up? If I do, does it kill corals and inverts?

I doubt it, try researching on the coral maybe, 8.3 is average i believe. but ill let an expert take over with real info. :cheer:

Hey Molly
My ph dropped real low 7.5. I raised mine very slowly by adding the buffer to my top off water. This will not kill fish but not sure on the inverts.

I don't like to use buffers. They can cause a higher PH, indeed, but the PH will fluctuate. There is definetly a reason why your PH is that low. What time of day did you test it? What is your fish load, and how large of a tank do you have? How much live sand and live rock do you use? What kind of salt do you use when you do a water change? These are just some starter questions, that will allow me to try to figure out why your PH is so low.

I have 30 gal tank with built in filter and skimmer and 35 lbs LS, 30 lbs LR. I use ocean mix salt and RO. Currently, I don't have any fish in the tank except 12 hermit crabs, 1 band shrimp, 1 branch tree coral, and 1 polyp (I think) coral. With my test kit, the pH = 8, with LFS pH = 7.9. I use to test the water in the morning.
