Dead Floating Pods - What's the Deal

I keep seeing these dead pods in my tank that just float in the water. I believe they are amphipods, cuz they got a curvy shrimp like shape. How come I don't see them alive on the sand?

It's probably a molt. I see them too. Amphipod molts floating in my tank, I have some big ones too.

ok so they are around then, i just cant see them?

I don't see mine unless i use a flashlight about an hour or more after the lights go out. But sometimes if the current hits a mushroom just right i can see them and bristle worms hanging out in the dark area underneath.
I also get the molts from the pods it's normal.

I vote molts as well. The amphipods leave especially large molts. Don't be alarmed if you start seeing dead, shell-less hermit crabs. They are more than likely molts as well. :joy:
