hey guys,
I bought 80lbs of dead live rock. It was dead because the former owner had used COPPER in his tank. It was dried for about 5 days. I have a new tank that has just barely been cycled. I Rinsed off the live rock but thats it.
Was it stupid of me to put in that live rock in my main tank to cure?
All I had in there was just 50lbs of live sand.
And If it was stupid, What steps should i do next?

YES!!! VERY!!!! You will never get rid of the copper, especially from rock that has SO many nooks and crannies.

what should I do then? I dont want to throw it away, I just got it. Surely there must be something I can do about the copper.

dude all rock should be recured in a seperate tank i use a seperate tub with a powerhead and skimmer in it
you will have to change the water once a week until the rock has gone through its die off period and a ammonnia levels are down you can put it in a tank as long there is no fish or inverts
for the copper i use poly filter it takes out medications and metals run that for a month check for copper, make sure you have no inverts in the tank because inverts cant handle copper and will die
copper doesnt stay in the system for much longer than a month
that poly filter works well it turns blue showing it pulling out the copper
