dead sand

i need to get some dead sand, what do you reccommend? is there something that i could get cheaper at a hardware store? (i know not to use playsand, etc) and i want it to be really fine and bright white. im going to be seeding it with preexisting live sand and live rock.

Try pool supply stores. Sand filters use very fine filtered sand.

ok, thanks. theres a pool supply right down the street, so thats convenient.
how do i know if its ok to use? i think i read a while back that if you get silica based sand youll have crazy algae problems or something? andything else i should keep in mind?

I used 100 pounds of play sand in my tank. Then I put 75 pounds of live sand on top. Never ever had one issue. 1 year later and tank is full of good stuff and doing great.

what kind of play sand? is it white or that tan sandbox color?

I used the tan play sand from home depot. About $3 for a 50lb bag.

ughh dang i wish they had white! oh well it looks like im just goin with LFS sand. thanks everyone.
