..... well... do the sand look ok?. smell bad?.. look like it has mold on it?? and will it cost u a lot to replace the sand.. i mean. if it's only 30lbs of sand u need then.. i'd just through old stuff away . go to h. depo and buy a bag of argonite sand.. dump it in and start from scratch.. like your where originaly going to do..

its a 22g tank (24L x 12W x 14H) whenever it gets disturbed a cloud of smoke goes into the tank and makes it cloudy.
will replacing my sand make my tank recycle?

live sand refers to the sand being colonized by bacteria, which it does during cycling. I imagine if your tank has cycled your sand is live, especially if you're feeding the tank, if you'd like to add critters to it you can put some live sand sold on sites like this one on top of it, and that will add some nice life to your sand bed

When you do the move you can just rinse the sand thoroughly to get the dust out.

You might want to just siphon all the sand out into a big bowl or something to stir it up in there. Then change the water and stir again to get more of the fog out then scoop just the sand back in to the tank.
The way you mentioned is still good though, if you remove all the water after stirring it.
