dead SFE

My SFE stopped eating for about 2 weeks and then last night I noticed his stomache was about as round and puffed up as my thumb, I knew he wasa goner as soon as I saw that and sure enough this morning he was dead. What do ou guys think could have happened to him? I poked his stomach after I removed his body and it felt full of air. Could he have ingested sand and it backed up his whole system or what?
I just want to prevent this to any other eels I may get in the future from suffering the same death.

There's no telling, perhaps an intestinal track infection, or a tumor. How are your other fish doing?
