ok... so i had a 44gal pedagon tank with live rock and a few fish.. i had to go for vacation down in Greece and had no one to take care of the tank.. i sold the fish but two snails were left dead all summer.. now that i came back i emptied about 4/5 of the tank and cleaned the live rock and snails. WHAT SHOULD I DO KNOW??? i am about to fill the tank up with water and get everything running hopefully the cycle will start with the 1/5 of the dirty water.

I don't see any issue with your tank now if you've changed out 4/5 amount of water. the 2 dead snails were months ago story, nothing is there to worry. Keep the water running and filter out all the debris and your tank should be good to go after a week.

there is nothing left to be rotten in the dead snails cuz bateria already finished all the dead stuff a longest time ago. Now is just a matter of cleaning up.

i would get a couple of pieces to re-seed the existing rock or get some live sand and sprinkle on the rock. wait a couple of weeks so that you tank comes back to life then put in a couple of fish. When yout hink all is well and you can see some creatures running around when the lights are off you're ready for either more fish depending on size of your tank or corals if you have proper lighting. Good luck, let us know how it goes
