I just got home and my colt coral is detatched from rock and lying on the bottom of the tank with its base falling apart and splitting without being attatched to anything.
The top of it is also falling off
Is it dead??????

Does not sound good.. I would use a rubber band and attatch it to a rock and see what happens.

A leather I got in Raliegh last year dies within 2 days of getting it home. It melted in the tank. It did not harm anything else in the tank and I think my crabs enjoyed it. I do not know if it will pollute it or not but it did not harm my tank.

A decomposing leather will definately pollute a reef tank...I personally lost a 10in diameter toadstool 6 years ago and it almost killed off everything.. The only thing I can suggest would be to cut off the decaying part of the leather, reattach it to a rock with a rubber band or fishing line, and hope all turns out OK. I have found that the use of the "Super Glue" on my leather frags did nothing but make them detach again and the bases of them turn to mush...Oh also, up your Iodine in the tank a little, and you can also dip the leather in an Iodine dip to try and save it if it is infected with something...Make sure you check for parasites at the base!!...Good Luck..Let me know what happens.. ;)

My colt's are constantly laying on there sides, but haven't had them detach from their base, yet. How long was the colt secured to the rock?
