well with that light they could keep any kind of coral they want but with those lights I would really worry about the water over heating! I would hate to have to buy a chiller for a 12 gallon nano. How old is the tank and did you get to see any pic's of it?

The light clips on the back of the tank and hangs over the aquarium 12+ inches. The tank is 8 months old, and he says everything works.

8 months old thats not bad. I would rather go with a 12 gallon than an 8 gallon. just be careful if its going to be in your sons room you dont want him to get burnt on the light like Cranberry said!

It is a 12 gallon, and I do not have any children. I wanted to set up an anemone tank with a mated pair, but I think I am going to hold off.

Actually you wouldn't need a chiller with that setup. It is high enough that there wouldn't be much heat transfer. You might run about a constant 80-84 but there is nothing wrong with that. $200 for that setup is a STEAL! Go for it. You would need to get a new bulb though if its 8 months old.

I passed on the 24 and went with the 12g JBJ with the 150 watt K2 Viper light. It has been set up for two weeks now, and still waiting on the ammonia to spike. The HOB filter is temporary until the tank is cycled, it came off my 28. You all were right about heat being a factor. I have to run an oscillating fan while the light is on to help keep the temp at 80. From night to day the tank has about a 2 degree flucuation. There is right at 10lbs of LR in the display and in the back chambers. I plan on getting an anemone for the Tomato once the tank is cycled. (Only reason the Tomato is in there is because I tried to mate him with my bigger Tomato in my other tank and she wanted nothing to do with him. I do not condone cycling tanks with fish, but I was out of options) Hope you enjoy the pics, let me know what you think!

Yeah the cheato is ontop of about 3 pounds of LR. I didn't want it in the display or right up next to the heater, so it was the only place I could think to put it. It seems to be getting the most light there too. Any advice on where I should put it?

Tank has been setup for over 3 months. I had to move it a couple weeks ago, but everything survived the transition. I added another Tomato Clown as well as a GBTA to try and get the two to mate. I plan on setting up two more tanks with different clown species in them. I will add pictures later

rofl... sps 12gallon FTW... get a 1/15 or 1/10 chiller and put that light 3 inches above the surface of the water hahaha. I'm hooking up my chiller on my 15gallon so I can lower my 150w MH pendant closer to the water.
