my false percula clown died today when i came home from school. it looked like it had ick in the morning it was all bleached and i did a 25% water change then.yeseterday it wouldn't come out for food at all and stayed in its cave. now it's dead. readings are
ph 8.3
nitrate 15ppm
nitite 2.5ppm (a little high)
PLEASE HELP!!! I MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO GET ANOTHER ONE UNLESS I CONVINCE MY PARETNS AND TELL EM WHAT I DID WRONG!!!!!

also yesterday i came home from piano practice and there was a bug in the tank. it was covered with white stuff. was this the cause of the death???

te problem was most likley the nittrates and nitrites, both should be at 0

yeah i guess that was the problem. i'll lower by doing maybe another water change.

i just did a 40% water change. will that get it to at least 5 ppm nitrate .5ppm nitrite??? :notsure:

I would say your nitrites are probably solely responsible for the cause of this fish death. Most any fish will do fine with nitrates at 15ppm (thats not considered high at all!!!). Idealy though, as fedukeford said, nitrates should be as close to zero as possible. In terms of other reasons for the death of this fish there could be many other factors. The fish could have been sick when you purchased him/her. Even if you don't see anything on the fish (or strange behaviors) it could still be ill.

Yeah, this is why they recommend that you QT all your fish before introducing them into the main aquarium; because they could be sick and you don't even know it! I would also stay away from ***** if you CANNOT QT (quaratine) your newly purchased fish. Next time buy from a good LFS or a reputable online store such as saltwaterfish.com.
