what is up with these dirtbags.i have been paying on my wife's truck for almost two years.never one payment after the due date.this month i have been so busy i forgot to pay it by the due date.the day after the due date my wife and i are getting 6-8 calls a day each.whats the matter with these people.anyone know what the laws are for collectors?i would love to file some charges on them.
i actually am one week late now i purposely am waiting till saturday to keep records of the calls.the sneaky slimeballs are actually calling from alot of different local numbers to try and trick people.you know times are tough for alot of people do they think people are just going to pick cash off a tree to pay?if they had it they would pay it.i these companies are so paranoid about getting their money why do they give the loan in the first place.nothing but bottom feeders.

Look up the fair debt collection practice laws of your state, or better yet call the finance company. At this stage of the game they are more than likely just an in house department of that company that are calling. Tell them to call off the dogs unless they like getting paid in pennies from now on.

well did some looking
federal trade commision.section 1692d
harassment and abuse
prohibits any unreasonable harassment making repeated phone calls to annoy or harass any person without identifing themselves.so they keep calling us ,leave no message and if i answer it they hang up.
seems like harassment to me.i am going to email the federal trade and see what they say.
i cant imagine what they must be doing to the poor people that are actually having money problems right now.

You answered your own question. Is it really too much to ask that you pay a debt you promised to pay… on time?
When I forget, and I have over the years...I was very apologetic, not defensive. If I was not going to be able to pay on time I would call the people and let them know. They would make a note of it, which stops annoying phone calls…. and ask when I thought I would be able to pick up that payment.
This is called being a responsible adult. When they hear nothing and get ignored they panic. If someone owed me thousands of dollars on a truck, you bet your bottom dollar I would call all over to find you. Look at from their point of view. They loaned you money, they are not the bottom feeders.

+1...

And being a small business owner having been on the "non-receiving" end of this deal, I have even driven out to a person's house before and held my hand out. "YOU" are not the victim, they are. If you owe me money, and have made no effort to explain a delay, either disconnect your phone or expect it to ring...OFTEN.

I did. Flower, mean what you say and say it like you mean it. If it's the truth, people will see it and respect it as such. Personally, I don't care what it comes out sounding like.

I would be pissed if I got multiple calls. Like Flower I would be embarrassed normally. I don't generally mess up but I did have an issue on the house payment where I thought I had went through all the steps to sign up for auto pay. It didn't go through and in this case BofA didn't notify me until 2 days before what would have been a second late payment which is as big a joke as calling 3 or 4 times before the payment is a week late.

If someone is continually late making their payments, I can see why a collection agency would start calling. However, if you make a payment a fews days late only once or twice during the loan period, that's no excuse. I've received a few of these calls when I haven't paid a medical bill. My insurance is setup to where I tell my doctor to send a bill to my insurance company, they will determine the negotiated rate, tell the doctor, then the doctor sends me the modified bill. This can sometimes take a couple or more months to do. When the collector's call, I tell them to have the doctor send me the modified bill, and I'd be more than happy to pay it. I also tell them that I am recording the conversation, and if they call back, I will report them to the FTC for harrassment. This usually shuts them up.

the reason i am pissed isnt because they called me .it is because of the way they are doing it.my payment isnt late.the payment is due on the 25th my coupon book says it is late after the 2nd.so i am actually not late untill then.the 8 calls a day are after the due date not after the late date.they dont leave a message and the phone hangs up when i do answer.get it?
i work for home builders and they pay when they get draws ,sometimes 3-4 weeks before i see my money.i dont call them 8 times a day for it.and another thing this collector isnt even the origional lender they bought the loan.if they are so paranoid about getting their money they shoudnt buy the thing in the first place.

Then that's different. If you are not even late yet, then yes, I would agree with you and have issues with the way they are handling this situation. They are probably just programed like robots to start hitting the phones when it even gets close, but no, they should not be calling you if the payment is not even late yet.

I believe there is a place for debt collectors but some can be so overzealous. They would never be able to talk to me since I don't answer the house phone unless I recognize who is shown on the caller id.

I have also gotten a few robo calls for someone named john milton. They have now called twice on Saturday morning at 8am. I will report them if it happens again.
On the positive side I got 2 calls on the ex wife (divorced the Bioch in 92) and they stopped. Got one on my brother's ex, he divorced her about the same time. They stopped.

The due date is in fact the due date. After this date you are LATE. The late date is the last day you can send payment in before they tack on additional charges or raise your interest rates and such.
So in fact YOU are late. have you called them to let them know payment is on the way. I find it amazing that people will complain when a company calls to track down their money owed but the same people do not have the courtesy to call the company back and inform them of what happenned. Maybe if youi did that, your mild annoyance would stop.

Exactly what I was trying to say. A call to them stops the calls to you.

Dude, time to refinance. My bank gives me a 30 day grace period on my car note. That I could theoretically use every time... God knows I forget to mail out my payment till the the due date.
