just bought some painted decorative coral, well some more(already have a nice red piece in my tank) but anyways, does this need to be boiled or can it be put right in the tank? Or should I let it sit in some fresh water for like an hour or two first??

anyone have any experience or knowledge with these? My red piece which Ive had seems normal, this new pink and purple piece, have some little bubble like things on the tips that are like glistening? Could this be some residue of some sort? It looks good in the tank but dont want to leave it in if harmful. Might be too many colors anyway, have blue, white, red, pink and purple coral all in a 46.....opinions?

I don't think you should use anything that has been painted. If you want to use dead coral, that is fine, but get some that is its natural condition. Paint will come off and could adversely effect your fish.

If it's for fish tanks it will be fine. What is the maker? Unless you bought it at a very poor place, you should be fine. If not call the manufacture. They make so much fake coral now that works fine. I personally like the real stuff.

I wouldn't use anything that was painted, it could break down over time. There is natural coral that is pink, or purple in color, but very hard to find because it can't be harvested anymore.

Well it was designed for fish tanks by an aquatic place. Not sure about a breakdown BUT if anyone has seen the aquarium at the luxor in vegas, the whole thing is full of painted corals, I tend to doubt theyd chance killing off all the fish in that thing due to bad coral.... I really like the pieces but if I had to, I could replace it with some regular coral, I'd be out about $90 since the store where I bought it doesnt take returns after 48 hours on anything

Thought those were only on the fish. If you took the coral back they should take it. If not find a new LFS. One that actually will work with you.
