Decreasing Flow

I have a Ehiem Pro2.
2128 (7.3L/1.9 gallon, 275 gph) If I put a flow controller on to decrease the flow in the tank, will this damage the canister pump?

Wont hurt the motor but will increase preasure in the canister.I wouldn't know if it could handle the increase in the canister housing or not.I would say it wouldn't be anymore preasure than a dirty filter though.

Make sure the flow reducer (ball valve?) is on the return and not the intake.
