Deep Cuts on Cardinals Head

Hey,
I think my bangaii cardinal got into a scuffle with a hitchhiker crab that came on my LR a while back. He has chunks taken from his head but he is swimming fine. Will he recover from it? I really dont want him to die, Ive had him for close to 5 yrs now, hes my bud :). So any way to treat him? Or leave him be and let him recover on his own?
Thanks,
ActionJack

You really can not "treat" while he is in your display tank. What other fish do you have in the tank?

Can you post your water paramters for us? That could be a reason why is not eating. We need your ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, kH, salinity, and temperature.
Have you tried soaking his food in garlic to stimulate his appetite? If you begin using Vitamin C in the fish's food also, the wound will heal faster. Kent's Marine C is a good product, and has always worked well when I dosed it in my fish's food.

He has started to eat now so I hope he will recover now. I dont have a test kit, I usually have a truysted lfs test it, and I didnt have a chance to go down there so I dont have water parameters. But I think that since he is eating he might do ok.

I would think that the tang inflicted the wounds. And will likely continue. Do the wounds look like slashes?

I really doubt it did. This is the first time he has had any wounds and they have been together for 5 years with no problems.. Even in a smaller tank. And no, they are not slashes, more like chunks of missing flesh

Well.. I dont know what happened but he didnt make it. He was eating fine and looked to be healing up. I guess there was too much stress for the poor guy.
