I came home from work today and they were gone!!!! not sure wat has happened!
So something ate my yellow polyps...my gf says maybe they died but i dont think so! My newest addition is a deer crowrie or some kind of crowrie. The frag piece was doing fine. eating even mysis. Actually they were growing. Ive got a couple hitchhiker crabs but i wouldnt go blaming them just yet. They are relatively small! HELP any ideas?

If you found one in the sand, I'd say it's a crab ripping through them. I've seen Emeralds do this to polyps, so if you have them, or unidentified crabs, one of them is probably the culprit.
Didn't you have zoanthid eating snails not long ago in this colony?

yes i had a sundial snail in my zoos...to be honest i think its my new addition but not sure. I caught my emerald crab going at the the last yellow polyp last night. He backed up when i was watching but now its gone! Ive got to thow some pellets in at night? Ive got crab pellets and algae pellets.....think this would be ok? Ive limited down on my feeding habits lately lol

I swear its the crowrie...he has eatin some zoos as well now MF!!!!

I do not trust any crabs in a reef tank anymore. I just will not keep them. I have about 3 more hermits left in the 155 that I have yet to catch, but they'll be out of a job once everything is moved to the 180.
I'm also extremely picky about what snails go in my reef. I stick to Nassarius, trochus, nerites and astreas.
If you don't have a positive identification on that cowrie, I wouldn't allow it in your reef. Many cowries are known to eat corals. Just google "coral eating cowrie" and check out some of the things that come up....

its an atlatic deer crowrie. I would say NOT reef safe. I have to get some nori and hopefully thatll get him away from the frag pieces i have!
why do i always learn the hard way....im gonna be watchin this mofo tonight when he comes out!

They're supposed to be reef safe. I have found that when critters go rogue and get a taste for corals, there's usually no fixing it.
