deionized water good for water changes?

I have access to free deionized water through work. Is this appropriate for water changes? How does it compair to r/o water? Thanks for the help!

Its the DI part of RO/DI. Deionized water is supposed to be pure. I rember in chem lab in college we used only deionized water to do experiments be cause it was supposed to be pure H2O. I would have it tested for phosphates and nitrates and copper. If it reads 0 then you have some good water.

Most RO units have a DI stage, so how could a pure DI unit be better then RO + DI? DI only removes the chemical elements that are attracted to the resin. It does not remove any solid particles and any impurities (Alot of municiple water supplies have many impurities, like oil, in extremely minute amounts). It works on the same concept as a water softner. There is no mechanical filtration, just chemical, which is not 100%.
