My friend's got a 45gal semi reef (10-15 corals) with 4 fish and i think 45-50LBS of LR..
He wants a better skimmer he has a super skimmer65. Someone on craigslist is selling a newer Deltec MCE300 for a $150 would the it handle his tank?
Thanks

mite be overkill, you can go over board on a skimmer. your friend will wind up adding trace elemnts cause the skimmer is pulling out so much

its not overkill (if anything the opposite being a HOB). I'd grab it at half price of retail. $150 is what it should cost new considering the pump is a maxijet with pinwheel. anyhow its small, quiet, effective and the pump isn't in the tank which is what most people want out of a hang on back. at $150 you can always sell it at no loss since it has Deltec stamped on it.

Or would he be better off going with a new Octopus BH 2000 for $170.
I'd still take the deltec at that price (I'd go for the octopus pefore I'd pay $300 for a new deltec 300 I'm just a little apprehensive about a pump sized for the NW150 being used on a HOB of that size. I'd be more inclined to use the BH1000 which has the same dimensions but 260gph oct-1000 pump used on the NW 110).
