red slime is primarily feeds on phosphates... so if ya take out the phosphates it dies off... so try some phos-x and that should kill that off in time

I have a case of it too and it seems to be worse at the end of the day because when I first turn my lights on it does not seem to be as bad. I simply suck mine out with a siphon every other day or so. Small patch about 2-3", but still seems to come back, always in the same spot. There is flow in that area so I have no idea.

Get a lot of water turnover, like 30-50X turnover.
Run RO water, no exceptions.
Get a good skimmer.
If the problem still persists, get a UV sterilizer.

something that most won't tell you here, but I have expereinced it twice is that the slime will just have to run its course. You need to do extra maintenance for sometime, but it will take time to rid the slime. You just need to wait. Both times I got it, it took about 3 months for it to finally disappear. It's almost like part of a cycle.

Another thing i forgot to mention before is that most of the time high phospahtes can come in your tap water... like another member stated exclusivly use RO water that way you wont be adding more food for the slime, and this stuff wont disapear overnight but once things get running well it will go away. just do a couple of water changes and ya should be good to go.

Thanks for the advice, however, I have all the above mentioned items: Skimmer, RO/DI, UV light, water changes and my lights are only on for about 4 hours. I recently bought a Sieo PH that moves about 650 pgh and I located at the bottom of my deep 30" tank to move around the water. Having done all this I still have the problem and bought Ultralife Red Slime remover and did not use it because I read negative things about adding it.
I'm really fustrated.....help, should I use the red slime remover?

DO NOT USE THE RED SLIME REMOVER
I cannot stress this enough!!!! Our LFS told us not to use it and guess what? We did
We had nothing but problems for months. Our Skimmer had to be turned off for about 3 months due to the micro-bubbles it was producing. Also our clowns got sores on their months and on their bodies. It was just devastating to watch!! Anyway, do water changes and siphon out the red slime with a hose. GOOD LUCK!

What sulphur Denitrator should I get..I heard the H&S sulphur denitrator works well.
PS: I have a FO tank...do I need it ?

Will the Denitrator remove too much and would I need to re-supply the water with elements again. Seeing its a Fo tank I don't have a calcium reactor or a Kal.

I tried a remover once too. It was supposed to be reef safe but my poor Frogspawn wasn't the same for about a month.

If you are talking about chemi-clean, I used it and it worked, didnt have any real problems, but every situation is different, so its up to you. Still, the slime is a byproduct of excess nutrients so getting the nitrates and phosphates down is really the best method and will produce the best long term results. There are more than a few different phosphate removal media available, some that can only be run for a couple of days, others that can be run long term. Also, controlling phosphates before they get into the tank is your best bet. Using only RO water and rinsing food before it goes into the tank will help alot. A uv sterilizer will have no effect on the slime.

I think I am going to buy the denitrator along with a powerful PH like Tunze to move the detris around. Do youthink the tunze is too much for a FO tank

I'm about to use some chemi-clean on my 10 gallon mini-reef, I'll let you know how it goes. The local aquarium society president swears by it.
Over the past week I went from a little red slime in my filter to red slime on EVERYTHING in my tank. I only use RO water so I know that's not the culprit.
I cut down feeding to very little and am not running my PC lights and added a 295gph powerhead.

You can never go wrong with a Tunze. More flow is always better
