Detach Soft coral from a rock

Is it possible to detach a soft coral from a rock without harming it or causing it too much stress.
Here's what it looks like.

If it's the leather you want to move simply cut it with a sharp knife, I use a disposable scalpel. Getting it reattached is another story. I use gel super glue with lots of bracing. The part you leave behind will probably grow more leathers.
